Image
CAPE CORAL'S BURROWING OWLS  One of the most charming and abundant species, the Florida Burrowing Owl, can be found throughout Cape Coral.and as a State Species of Special Concern, for conservation and public awareness, burrow locations are marked with signs & posts and many nests are maintained and monitored by volunteers. It is not uncommon to see the owls sitting on the posts or their perches near their burrows enjoying the activities around them. During the months of April through August owl chicks can be easily observed. They normally have 5 to 6 chicks per pair but sometimes there can be as many as 9. Cape Coral's population of these little creatures is approximately 3,000,. Their diet consists mostly of mice, lizards, insects and frogs.  Their life expectancy is normally 7 years.  The Burrowing Owl is about 7 1/2 – 10 inches tall with a wingspan of 21 – 24 inches, and weighs 4 1/2 – 9 ounces. Unlike most owls, the male bird is slightly heavier and

Lee and Collier counties have 5 cities that made the grade! Tripadvisor.com, a leading travel website has recently named it's Top 20 Places to Vacation and Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel Island as well as Naples & Marco Island all made the cut. It's no surprise to me, as I live here and already know what a great part of the world we spend our day to day lives in. I grew up on Englewood Beach, a bit north of here, in Charlotte County. My parents owned a small gulf front boutique hotel called "Jade West".  Jade West surely would have been highly ranked on Tripadvisor.com if there had been a thing called the internet back then.  Not much has changed on Englewood Beach since I grew up there, it is still a quiet little fishing community. Englewood Beach Florida If you are searching for a bit more activity, then Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach is the place for you.  Still considered a small town, Fort Myers Beach and the surrounding are

Their true story was told by  Richard Powell, a Fort Myers author.   In this novel "Pioneer Go Home" he helped make the Matlacha Bridge famous. His book was later made into a movie for
